Six Students of Darmasiswa Approved in Sanata Dharma University (SDU)

Darmasiswa is one of the scholarship programs held by the Minister of Education and Culture in collaboration with the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Darmasiswa scholarship is offered to all foreign students from any country which have a diplomatic connection with Indonesia to study language, art, and culture. This program is routinely held every year by Sanata Dharma University, but it has been stopped for 2 years since the pandemic of COVID – 19. This year, the Darmasiswa scholarship program is opened again and several students from 5 countries have registered at Sanata Dharma University (SDU).

There are six participants of Darmasiswa from various country has been approved to study language and culture at SDU, among them are Huang Yuxian from China, Nguyen Thuc Quynh from Vietnam, Sittha Tripornchaisak from Thailand, Rowan Griffin West from the United Kingdom, along two other participants from Bulgary, Viktoria Georgieva Petrova and Silvia Rumenova Vodenicharova. The Darmasiswa participants also have been joined the orientation by the Minister of Education and Culture in Jakarta on 29th – 30th August 2023. The Darmasiswa students will study Bahasa Indonesia in the first semester, and in the second semester, they will get a chance to join the study according to their preferred field.

In the middle of this September, they will start to join the Bahasa Indonesia class at The Language Institute of Sanata Dharma University in the first semester. Then in the second semester, they will continue to add in the courses and choose classes according to their preferred field. On the other hand, the participants later also joined several student affairs activities at SDU, such as Karawitan, Mapasadha, Grisadha, Pengabdian Masyarakat, and Lens Club. The members of several student activities warmth – welcome the presence of the Darmasiswa participants who want to join their student affairs activities unit. 

The international office also held the orientation program for the Darmasiswa participants to introduce living life in Indonesia, Yogyakarta, and the SDU community, as well as immigration which is needed for their transit visa while in Indonesia which was held on 4th September 2023.

“I am very happy, I got a lot of new friends, and I can visit various places in Yogyakarta,” said Sittha Tripornchaisak, one of the Darmasiswa participants from Thailand. Hopefully, the Darmasiswa participants can learn the language and culture of Indonesia also being the Indonesian ambassadors in their respective countries.
